More than 10,000 people will come together in Adelaide in October for Open State, and Better Together Showcase 8: Towards Open State provided a sneak peek of what's happening during the ten day event.

The event explored how collaboration, innovation, ideas and enterprise can address the complex challenges of our future.

Premier Weatherill launched the official Open State program.

Nina Terrey - ThinkPlace

Dr Nina Terrey is a partner of ThinkPlace, a global design and innovation company specialising in the transformation of public services using design methods to systemically create public value. Nina is a leading innovation co-design expert and practitioner. Her work focuses on how to solve public problems by taking a co-design approach and empowering people to co-create better solutions.

Sarah Thomas - Department of the Premier and Cabinet

Sarah is a strategic communication, digital and stakeholder engagement specialist with 20 years global experience across public, private and not for profit sectors. She is currently focused on positioning South Australia as a leader in innovation, collaboration and enterprise as manager of the engagement strategy and innovation team at the Dept of the Premier and Cabinet.

Kirk Drage - LeapSheep

Kirk’s global background along with his leadership experience at various business growth stages, from earliest phase start-ups to multinational corporates has perfectly positioned him to pursue his passion - accelerating the abilities of entrepreneurs and business leaders to build value and valuation in their companies – coincidently, the focus of his latest venture, LeapSheep.

Panel Host: Kristin Alford - University of South Australia

Kristin is a futurist and the the inaugural Director of the Science Creativity Education (Sci.C.Ed) Studio. This new cultural institution at the University of South Australia opens in 2018 and aims to inspire young adults about the role and potential of science in creating futures.


John Spoehr - Flinders University    

John Spoehr is Director of the Australian Industrial Transformation Institute at Flinders University in South Australia. He leads a multi-discplinary team focusing on industry and workplace transformation in the context of technological change and innovation. John has over 20 years experience as a social and economic researcher.

Reb Rowe - Adelaide Bike Kitchen

Reb Rowe is a founder of the local bicycle collective called Adelaide Bike Kitchen, which provides an open space for people to learn to fix their bicycles, building a local community through doing so.

Declan Hill - Children's University

Declan is 14 years old. He became involved in Children’s University in 2014 and has participated actively for 2 years, doing many hours of learning. Declan enjoys organising and leading learning activities for younger students.
